Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted- Matt. 5:4
A few months ago, my art teacher passed away. My sisters and I were driving home when my Dad told us. When I heard the news, I didn’t know what to think except, why? Why does God let these things happen?
When we got home, I stayed in the car for a moment after everyone left, with these thoughts in my heart. I began to get out of the car. Something caught my eye.
I turned and there fluttering in the flowers was the most gorgeous butterfly I had ever seen. It had large beautiful rings of bright orange spiraled with black. Oh readers, if you had only seen it.
I stared at it. For a moment, I forgot my pain while taking in the beauty of God’s creation. Serenity washed over me. And in the midst of my sorrow, all I could think about was God’s comforting love for us. I was overwhelmed at the thought and just burst into tears. I am overwhelmed now as I write this.
I know God sent that butterfly down as a comfort. It flew so near me I could almost touch it. God’s promise is that, despite whatever hardships come our way, He will never be out of reach. He will comfort his children in mourning. God’s love for us is unfailing. His plans are for the good of his people. This is his promise.
Readers, if you have had a loss or are suffering from hardships, know that Jesus stands with arms wide open, ready to comfort. Turn to him.
And, readers, God also sends people to comfort. You are not alone in your suffering. But know that God is your main source of comfort.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.- 2 Corinth. 1:3-4
