FEAR. It’s that feeling you get when you’re lying across your bed in the darkness of midnight. Every floor creak becomes a footstep, every hiss of wind a monster under the bed. Even from childhood, fear lurks in our hearts. As we grow older, that same dead-of-night fear can creep up when we watch the CNN or turn on the computer. It seems like the world is churning upside down and inside out. We don’t have any control over the disasters that could happen to us or the ones we love.
But who is the one who holds the world in his hands?
Jesus! He has control over all things and can take our backwards, upside down world and put it back into shape.
Psalms 95:4 says “In whose hand are the depths of the earth, The peaks of the mountains are His also.”
Sometimes, Jesus’ way of fixing doesn’t line up with yours. The election seemed like a mess, you failed the test, or your mom didn’t get the job. Even in those times when everything in your life is not going as planned and the changes are frightening you, Jesus has a plan secured for you. In his hands, we are safe.
Psalm 40:12 says “he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.”
So, when you are lying in your bed unable to sleep, or sitting on your couch watching the news, or in any situation where you may be afraid, put your trust completely and securely in Christ Jesus. It’s as easy as this prayer:
Dear Jesus, I don’t understand everything that’s going on in my life and I might not always see your hand. But please strengthen me to not be afraid and to trust that you will protect me, just as your Word says. I love you. Amen.
