For lots of Christians, praise and worship time can be a bit awkward. The praise leader starts singing. Adults start jumping and lifting their hands. But, you just sit there watching. None of your friends are praising. Why should you?
I totally get you. You know you should openly praise God, but you don’t want to look like you are doing it for attention. Ever since I was little, I’ve faced this problem. Do I raise my hands or do I sit? I don’t want to look weird in front of my friends.
My dad once told me a story about his visit to a church. The music started and all the people around him started singing, dancing, and lifting their hands. But my dad stood off to the side, arms folded, watching. God spoke to his heart, “Why aren’t you praising.”
Dad said that he didn’t want to be phony. God asked, “But aren’t I worthy of your praise?”
Wow. This is where we as Christians need to make a decision. To glorify God or to look good. The voice inside of you that tells you to chose God isn’t just your conscience; it’s the Holy Spirit.
Praising God isn’t about looking good or holy. It’s about giving God the glory He deserves.
Psalms 150:6 says “Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD!”
Lifting your hands is a sign of praise. Its is a sign showing you are surrendering your life to Christ. When people go to a concert or football game, it's easy to stand up and scream and shout. But somehow it gets hard praising the Creator of the Universe.
If you choose to praise God, don’t limit your praise to the sanctuary. Praise Him at home, in your bed, at school, in your head. At all times praise the LORD. Praise Him so that the whole world knows you serve a great God!!
