Woah. I look over my shoulder and all I can think is “Where did the year go???” As I get older, time seems to fly faster and faster, hurling us into “Infinity and beyond!” Memories become more precious and friends become greater joys, but the ticking becomes scarier and scarier. Every move of the clock signifies a loss of yesterday’s familiarity and a thrust into the unknown of tomorrow. College, jobs, relationships, loans, and not to mention doing your own laundry! As I stare two thousand and seventeen years in the face, I can’t help wishing I could back away. Just one step back. Please?
Luckily for me, wishes don’t always come true.
Just as I know the unknown can be intimidating, I know that it can also bring beauty. Hope lives in Pandora’s box. And so does joy, and laughter, and excitement, and prosperity, and fulfillment, and tears. Happy tears and sad ones. The unknown is a jungly mess of a little bit of everything, and not one of those experiences are a waste. So if you’re a junior in high school like me, or in college, or a full-blown adult, don’t look at tomorrow with fear and dread. Look for the awe and beauty in what God has yet to unfold. The good times will be the best times, and the hard times, well, they are going to take a lot of prayer. But don’t shrink away. Attack the moment head on. It was made for you.
